Rae Nelson leaves for Bristol City FC Academy

We are delighted to announce that U11s Bristol Inner City player Rae Nelson has signed a contract with local professional club Bristol City FC Academy.

Rae joined Bristol Inner City 2 ½ years ago following an unsuccessful trial with Bristol City, where it was felt that he was not yet ready to take the next step to academy level football.

Since joining Bristol Inner City, Rae has demonstrated tremendous loyalty, focus and resilience as both a player and a young man. Rae has dedicated himself to the BIC training programme, with a clear focus on continually developing his skills. His hard work and determination are evident in the actions he takes both on and off the pitch.

Over the past 2 plus years Head of Development, Patrick Williams, has had the pleasure of working closely with Rae as the U11s Coach and Manager. A terrific goal scorer, Rae has been an instrumental part of the team within his own age group and the age group above.

Along with his teammates and U13s age group, Rae recently had the opportunity to attend the Iber Cup tournament in Denmark – a first for Bristol Inner City. An integral part of the team, Rae displayed passion, skill and commitment throughout the tournament which saw the U11s walk away victorious as winners of the Iber Cup 2016.

In the last couple of months, Rae has also attended a trial with Chelsea FC who were very impressed and continue to keep track of his progress.

Rae’s coach Patrick Williams said ‘I personally will miss Rae and our journeys to matches each weekend – even his falling asleep on the way home! My advice to Rae is to stay focussed, you have a true talent for the game and should grab every opportunity you are presented with to grow and develop your already exceptional skills.

You have been a joy to be around and are a role model to any young player who wants to better themselves. You have achieved success through hard work, sheer determination and your increasing resilience on and off the pitch.’

Rae is a talented player and a gentleman who will be missed by all at Bristol Inner City. On behalf of the club, managers, coaches, players and parents we would like to wish him the very best as he starts a brand new chapter in his footballing journey. One which we are sure will continue for a long time to come.
