We are delighted to confirm that we will be again making the trip overseas for our 2017 tour. The destination will be Estoril in Portugal to take part in the prestigious IBER Cup tournament.
Our intention is to take 5 squads from u11 to u16s. This tournament represents a significant challenge to our players and builds on the success of our 2016 IBER Cup tour to Denmark.
Participation will be on a selection-only basis and this will focus on a blend of ability, commitment and how we feel the player would adapt or conduct themselves during the tour. It is vital for us that the players can understand what is required from their participation in the tour outside of the games we will play.
Dates are below for your information and to express your interest and to enable us to secure the best rates going forward you will be required to pay an initial non-refundable deposit* by 30th November 2016. Full details are contained within a parents letter you will receive this week.
*Refundable if not selected to take part.
Proposed Tour Arrangement/Dates:
- Depart Bristol late on 2nd/early hours of 3rd July 2017
- Travel by coach to airport (London TBC) – The lowest cost flight will determine this.
- Tournament runs from 4th to 9th July
- Full board accommodation included
- Returning by 7th July at the latest (early hours) – Depending on return flight times for Saturday 6th.
If you would like to read about the tournament, here is the link: – http://www.ibercup.com/en/
You are also invited to a parent’s presentation where we will share more details about the trip. These will be held on two training nights as follows:
- Monday 28th Nov
- Wednesday 30th Nov
These will be held in the canteen at City Academy from 7.30-8pm. Please attend the one that works for you best.
The remaining cost of the tour will be required before the end of April 2017 and we have negotiated a staged payment plan with the tournament organisers which we will share with you in due course.
To help reduce costs for everyone, we are also seeking external sponsorship and this would be an excellent opportunity for a local company to gain publicity in a tournament of such quality, as well has coverage leading up to the event. If you know of anyone who would be interested, please put them in touch.
This years’ IBER Cup experience had significant publicity for BIC through social media channels, website, Bristol Evening Post and BBC Radio Bristol. It also resulted in a subsequent tour for our u11s to Denmark in September.
More information around potential fundraising, travel, tournament arrangements, training days will follow however, it is important that your interest is expressed within the timescale indicated in the parent letter to make sure our participation is not affected.
